Swollen neck and an achy head is what I wake up to. I coulda kept sleeping, but it got lonely. I sit straight up when I hear Alex’ footsteps coming toward the room.

“My beautiful” I say to him. He looks at me funny as first, but then smiles back.

“You’re up. I tried to let you sleep in.” He’s says. He’s munching on something he got from the store while I slept. I can’t see what it is because it’s still in the plastic grocery bag. His crunching is so loud I’m glad I wasn’t sleeping because it surely would have woke me up. My headache pulses but with him eating in front of me with no care in the world, I feel I should demand something bigger.

“Can we go to the candy store today?” I say this with my gentle eyes. The ones he can’t say no to.
