A window slams causing the cat to run off. The two are left with each other and that is all it took for the world to go right again. Their own world. They sit and watch the world run around like the mindless mice they used to be. The sidewalk warms from the shining sun. Their hearts warm from embracing each other. Abby brushes her fingertip over a mark on her skin from where a black bird pecked at her. Hail watches her and follows her lead with his own finger. They have a city waking up before them and all they can focus on is their own fingers. There’s something symbolic in the way they love each other and I don’t think they can avoid it much longer.
